Wedding at Wynyard Hall – Vicki & Howard part 1

We made the long (?) journey over to the north east for Vicki & Howard’s fantastic wedding last Friday.  We love travelling for weddings as it’s a great way of seeing more of the UK, most of which we’d probably never get to visit!  It’s also good to photograph at venues we’ve never been to before, few things help us feel more creative than to be completely out of our regular comfort zone.  Wynyard Hall itself is a stunning venue too, with its own attached chapel and beautiful architecture both inside and out – we always love pillars!

Vicki & Howard are a fun and creative couple who were an absolute pleasure to work with, they wanted their wedding to be very personal and totally relaxed.  One of the nicest touches, and certainly quite an epic undertaking, were the place cards which all had a personally written message from the bride and groom – such a lovely idea!  We were honoured to be pretty much the only people there on the day that they hadn’t known for years.  They found us through their friends Amy and Phil, who’s wedding we photographed over two years ago – thanks for still spreading the word!!

We were joined at the wedding by the very talented James Pearson – an up and coming Scottish wedding photographer who was kind enough to 2nd shoot for us.  I’m sure he’ll have some shots up on his blog in the next few weeks.

Wedding at Wynyard Hall – Vicki & Howard Part 2

Vicki & Howard wanted to spend as much time as possible with their friends and family (that is really the point of inviting them all!) that we didn’t have too much time to spend on portraits of the two of them, but when you have a couple and a venue as awesome as this then you don’t need lots of time!

Vicki had some pictures of her and her sister printed as a present for her parents – I think they must have chosen well:

Vicki_Howard096

We normally take shots of each other on the dance floor so we can check the light and our camera settings, these are usually some of the most boring pictures that the world will never see – but since we had James along it made them a little more interesting!  Here’s Laura and James enjoying a little dance (they may well kill me for posting this!):

Our trip to Prague!

Last week we spent a few days exploring the beautiful city of Prague.  We hadn’t planned this jaunt, in fact it was Pete’s parents’ holiday – that is until John couldn’t take time away from work and we gladly took the trip off their hands :-) Yippee!  Neither of us had visited Prague before, but as we both LOVE cities, we knew we would have lots of fun exploring (and taking pictures of course!).

What do you need to cope with being at an airport at 5.30am?  Coffee and a photo mag!

We stayed in the lovely Charles Hotel, which is in a great location near to the Charles Bridge…

Prague024

Gorgeous room…

Prague002

The view from our window was fantastic!

We did some exploring…

The Charles Bridge is always packed with tourists…

Prague015

Good view though :-)

Over the bridge is Stare Mesto (Old Town)…

The Old Town Square…

Prague019

The first cafe break…this place did the BEST hot chocolate!

Prague020

Prague021

Prague022

Next we headed to Grand Cafe Orient for lunch, which is a super stylish cafe in a cubist building (House of the Black Madonna).  This was probably our favourite find (thanks Pete’s guidebook!)

Prague024

Next up was a brief look at Nove Mesto (New Town), which was totally worth it if only for this shot of Pete with a building growing out of his head…

No need to give me evils!

Here’s me being touristy…

Prague034

Prague035

We went on a mission to find Cafe Montmartre, which is a historic place of hedonism (now converted into an atmospheric coffee house!)…apparently it was a place of jazz, opium, absinthe and orgies…ooh er!

Prague038

Found it!

Prague043

The Charles Bridge by night…

Prague044

I hogged the brolly :-)

Prague045

The next day and we geared up to trek in the other direction towards the castle and Hradcany

Prague001

The castle is at the top of a huge hill.  Most people get the tram up there, not us!  (For the record – get the tram, we almost passed out!)

Prague003

Prague004

We saw the changing of the guards at the castle gates…

Prague006

This guy was pretty moody…

Prague005

Prague007

Prague008

Inside the castle gates are some beautiful buildings, including this beautiful cathedral…

Prague009

Prague010

Prague011

Another cafe!  This time we chose the Lobkowicz Palace Cafe, which had awesome views…

Prague012

…and patio heaters!

Prague013

Prague014

Prague015

We were determined to get some cool shots of the bridge…

Portraits can be dangerous

Prague019

Prague020

Happy face…

Prague021

Sad face…

Prague022

And finally my favourite picture…

Prague016

It was such a fun trip, Prague definitely gets the Lawson stamp of approval!  A big thank you to John and Christine for this wonderful break! XX

Alison, Mark & Holly Portrait Shoot

We photographed Mark and Alison’s wedding last November, and they had the lovely idea of a portrait shoot on their anniversary, at the spot where we took their wedding portraits.  Since their wedding there has been a little addition to the family – gorgeous baby Holly.  It was a gorgeous day (unlike their wedding day when it was mostly rainy!), and Mark and Alison were total troopers for charging through all the mud with us!

Holly is completely adorable…

I love her little shoe-less foot!
