We spent the last two days in Blackpool meeting up with some photo friends we met through the bschool and Stewart Randall‘s wedding photography mafia. It was a great couple of days with lots of fish’n’chips, £5 bottles of wine (in Yates – how old are we again?), and lots of chatting about photography. We had a model arranged, but unfortunately the rain put her off. After an unexpectedly extended stay in the pub, we were left taking pictures of each other in the dark.
This was followed by an unfortunate incident where the Leeds contingent (and Susie) stole our prawn crackers![]()
We may never get over the betrayal. Or the strange club we ended up where the DJ did a shout out to all ‘the fourth years’ – we quickly realised that we’re not ready for a night out in Blackpool and retreated to our Hotel!
Here are some pictures:

Photographers aren’t exactly hard to pick out of a crowd:

Stewart Randall (aka ‘the godfather’) and his big box of tricks:

Chris Mackenzie representing (along with James) the Scots

3B Media doing their own thing on the beach (we didn’t want to intrude). They are Barber, Booker, and Barnaby (who has just done his own, much better, post on the meetup here: www.barnabyaldrick.com/blog/entry1421)

Me, looking rather too happy

Rebecca Honeywell on the right here, she likes to hide behind the camera a lot!

Hayley Ruth/Oats (we don’t really know!), enjoying the complimentary lollies our hotel kindly provided!

Here we have the back of Mark Lenik’s head – he’s a videographer trying to infiltrate our little group of photographers.

As the model didn’t turn up, Olivia Brabbs was nominated to step into the role as we played around with off camera flash and other fun things. She did a fine job too!

It was a very serious business!

These next two are my favourites:

Susie Lawrence stepped in to the limelight (and then stepped straight out again!) – a dozen photographers taking your picture must be pretty scary!

Followed by Laura (love this picture!)

This is closest we got to having Stewart model for us:

Me again, with Mark lurking behind.

Laura braved the oncoming traffic so we could try and get a little flare going on:

As did Susie, not sure she was too happy about it!

This was followed by a much calmer second day involving fun chats about albums, biscuits, lenses, cameras, and all the other really geeky photography stuff we have to keep quiet about when we talk to normal people for fear of sending them to sleep! Thanks Rebecca for taking the next few pictures (sorry I still put our logo all over them!):

There was also Neil Matthews and Mark Byrne along for the fun, but they managed to avoid the cameras, maybe next time!
It was great fun meeting up with everyone – we’re really looking forward to doing it all again soon! We’re over the prawn cracker incident now too, mostly…

Nice work Mr & Mrs! You guys rule. The shots of Olivia are my favourites. Sorry we ran off to the beach; I saw the moody sky and got caught up with flash ratios and trying to make Barber & Barns sit on the fence between moody and cool. Glad to meet two lovely and genuine people and you’re the kind of guys that make me want to work harder at upping my own game. Keep in touch. R
I love your photos kids! Seriously. Laura in the headlights, Olivia by the seawall & her coat shot. Genius. Really great to meet you both. You two and the Randall cosa nostra are a source of serious inspiration. Keep it up.

I’m nostalgic already! Great set of shots to sum it all up although it’s reminded me why it’s better if I stay the other side of the lens. Sorry about the prawn crackers. I only had one…
Amazing shots guys – very wierd to be on the other side of the camera for a change… So great to meet you both – it’s been a seriously inspiring trip!
A great series of images guys. I dont know where you find your energy. Love the pictures of Laura and Olivia.
I love the photos, as always you too have rocked it, and in some challenging, wet, windy and dark circumstances! Great to share wine, info and ‘special’ people’s moments together,;o) can’t wait for next time!

Ha great post guys – love the images, I’m pretty Ninja at avoiding the business end of a camera and was happy to be Stewarts VAL for the time.
